Third and longs are not converted because of play calls, they are done so by competent pocket passers. Which the Eagles lack.

I hear you Henndog! I wouldn't go as far as to say that Hurts is an incompetent pocket passer. I think he's proven time and time again that he is. But I do agree with you that his conservative play style doesn't lend itself to converting 3rd and long opportunities where you have to take necessary risks and trust your playmakers to have any hope of converting.

I think the main issue here is that they end up in so many 3rd and longs to begin with. That's an indicator of an inefficient and undisciplined offense, which Sirianni, Patullo, Hurts, and the whole offensive unit are to blame for.

Being in 3rd and long as often as the Eagles are is no way for any offense to live. If you put the best offenses in the league (which we are definitely not) in 3rd and long consistently, they'll die on the vine more often than not. It's just bad football.

Agree. When I was an OC I’d always ask the players, “what’s the best way to be a good third down team”…and they knew the retort I wanted back…”be good on first down.”

Which typically starts in the run game.
